We make mercury vapor UV lamps. Specifically, the kind designed to dry ink on fabric at high speeds. Here is the basic gist: these lamps blast out short-wave UV radiation. That light hits the photo-initiators in your ink and locks the pigment into the fibers almost instantly. No waiting around. No smudging. The science bit (but kept simple) To get a stable arc, we use a very specific mix of gas and electrodes. We tune these tubes to hit a peak in the UVC and UVB spectrum. Why does that matter? Because if the wavelength is off, you get “surface tack.” That’s that annoying situation where the ink feels dry to the touch, but the base is still wet. Not a good look. Our lamps make sure the cure goes all the way through to the fabric. How we actually build them You can’t just use regular glass—it blocks UV light. So, we use high-purity fused quartz. It’s a tough material. It has to be, because these lamps heat up and cool down fast, and standard materials would just crack under the pressure. We also beef up the end-caps so you don’t have to worry about gas leaks when things get hot. If you already have a conveyor system, these should slide right in. We’ve got different lengths and wattages depending on how fast your line moves. If you’re cranking out fabric at top speed, you’ll want the higher wattage tubes to make sure every square inch gets enough light. The trade-offs you need to know Here is the catch: high-intensity UV creates a lot of heat. While the UV light is doing the hard work of curing the ink, the infrared heat can actually scorch synthetic fabrics if the lamp is too close. It’s a balancing act between how high you hang the lamp and how fast the conveyor is moving. To keep your fabric from shrinking or melting, we usually suggest a forced-air cooling system or a chilled roller. It just keeps things safe. One last thing—don’t skimp on the wiring. You need a stable ballast. If your power flickers or fluctuates, your electrodes will burn out early, and you’ll start seeing uneven curing across the width of your fabric. It’s a headache you just don’t want.
